A Humble Heart
Humble Heart
Three traits of a humble heart: So many times we think we are humble. We can truly find out if we are humble by checking these three traits.
- 1. A humble heart is a thankful heart.
If you are thanking God for the little things you have a humble heart. Check if you thank Him for the new day. See if you remember to thank him for the food in your plate. See if you thank him when you return safely to the comfort of your cozy pillow for a good night rest. Or you just rush right into the day without acknowledging His presence or power in your life. Do you gulp your food down the moment it’s on your plate without thinking about His provision? Do you doze off so quickly without thanking Him for His protection? Psalm 4:8 says “I will lie down in peace and sleep, for though I am alone, O Lord, you will keep me safe.”(NLT). A truly humble heart is a thankful heart. Think for a moment and decide to deliberately, consciously, intentionally thank him every day before you get out of your bed, eat your food and go back to sleep.
- 2. A Humble Heart is a Trusting Heart.
When you face a problem what is your response? Do you confront it directly with your own knowledge, wisdom or ability or do you seek God’s wisdom and God’s ways? When you hit a roadblock in your path to success, do you turn to money power or do you humbly wait for God to move? Do you run to higher officials? Do you trust your Almighty Father when things don’t move your way. A truly humble heart trusts God at all times, it does not lean on its own understanding and in its ways acknowledges him. We read in Proverbs 3:5 & 6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
So here is the second check if you truly have a humble heart.
- 3. Humble Heart is a Truthful Heart.
A humble heart never exaggerates, never twists or minus words. A yes is a yes and no is a no. A humble heart is kind enough to be truthful and treats others like it would like to be treated. Making someone believe something that is not true about you is cruelty. The Bible says in Psalm 123:4 “We have suffered many insults from lazy people and much cruelty from the proud..” that proud people are cruel. So do you have a truthful heart that is kind to people to let them know who you are nothing more and nothing less. Humility is God’s estimation of who you are so only when you know who you are in God’s eyes you can be truly humble.
So let us check if we are truly humble by seeing if we are thankful to God and people, trusting God and God given people in authority and truthful to God and people.
Make conscious decisions with the help of the Holy Spirit to keep your heart in all humility. Let thankfulness trusts and truthfulness overflow in us. The Bible says in James 4:6 “God gives strength to the humble, but sets himself against the proud and haughty.” that God gives grace to the humble. May He fill us with His grace to run the race set before us till we see Him face to face.
Stay blessed.
