YOUR BREAKTHROUGH IS ON THE WAY!!!

Though it’s a long time since I wrote, it has always been in my heart to do so.

Of late I am so intrigued by the life of King David. He was called by God Himself as a ‘Man after His own heart’.

If we really look deep into David’s life, we see that he was not after position, power or the Kingdom. He was truly after pleasing God more than his desire to be a King. He wanted to be God’s servant, more than he wanted the throne. He wanted a place in God’s heart more than anything else.

The way David dealt with people attracted God’s attention towards him. He knew how to catch God’s attention. He was merciful and kind not according to any rule book. He was always in line with God’s expectations.

He always pleased God so much .No wonder God blessed, not just David but all his generation after him for David’s sake. David was anointed to be king at a very young age. He had received word that he was going to be the next king. But David was in no hurry to abdicate the throne or God’s anointed King before him to get God’s promise fulfilled in his life. He waited, waited and waited for long years to finally be king.

But more than this, he was constantly faced by the threat of losing his very own life. King Saul was chasing him like a dog. He wanted to see David dead at all cost.
In fact, it was a spirit in Saul that was after the life of King David. The threat over his life was not just about his life but it was about the Messiah. The Lord Jesus was to be born in David’s lineage. So he was not just after David but against the Saviour of the world. David was constantly haunted by this threat. He spent a lot of days hiding in caves and in the wilderness. He had sleepless nights and close saves. He tried every possible way to come out of this dangerous situation, but he found no break-through. At times he felt like the problem was almost solved whenever Saul realised his mistake and repented. Saul would back off from pursuing after David’s life but he would start again. This problem in David’s life never seemed to come to an end ; it didn’t seem to have a solution. Yes, of course David had prayed, he had cried out to God but there was no respite. No sign of deliverance from his enemy.

Many a times in our life too, we might be fighting against some problem for a long time. There might be no sign of light at the end of the tunnel. No new shores on the other side of the endless horizon. We wish at every dawn that the chaos will cease, the pain will end, the storm will calm, but it almost seems that there is no hope.

But David did get his breakthrough. In this hopeless, helpless horrific moment he got a breakthrough.

I know many of you are waiting for a break through. What did David do differently now that God ensured he got his breakthrough?

Let’s read I Samuel chapter 30. Here we see that the Amalekites had raided David’s settlement and had taken away all that David had, his wife, his children, his goods. They took everything.

David had a few loyal men with him, but David’s life seemed hopeless and helpless, so even those people turned against David . They wanted to stone David and kill him. What is a leader with no people to lead? David’s situation was getting worse. But as always, in his distress he ran to God for help. He called to God and God spoke to him and told him to go after the Amalekites. I Samuel 30:6 says that David strengthened himself in the Lord. David decided to please God. He strengthened his relationship with God. He started to do things that would grab God’s attention over his life. There were 3 things David did, that ensured a breakthrough in his life .( I Samuel chapter :30)

1) Being merciful to someone in pain even in the midst of our pain

When David was rushing to chase after his enemies, he came across an Egyptian slave in a field. I Samuel (30:11-14) David being in a hurry could have quickly gone past him or being the angry and upset person  he could have slapped and dragged the slave boy to extort information from him. But instead, in the midst of his own pain, he was being kind and merciful to someone in pain. I am sure it moved God’s heart . The Egyptian had the solution David was looking for. What if we have the solution to our problem deeply hidden in the pain of another person whom we could easily overlook. May we have eyes to see the pain of others even when we are in pain. The solution to our problem could lie with one of them!

2) Being generous to those who don’t deserve it.

A leader is not a leader without his followers. David was the leader of those people who were disgruntled with Saul. Now David’s men quickly forgot the good, David did for them. They wanted to stone him (1 Samuel 30:6 ) and even when he wanted to pursue their enemies, one of these men decided to stay back. David was going after not only his wives and things but he was also going to retrieve things of all his men. But some ungrateful people decided to leave David to fight alone. (1 Samuel 30:10). But when we read 1 Samuel 30:21, we see that David decided to be generous even to the ungrateful because he remembered that his strength was from the Lord and it was God who helped him win the battle ( I Sam 30 :24). David could have shared the spoils only with those men who helped him. It would have been fair enough. But David decided to be generous beyond the natural. That’s when, in the supernatural, God’s heart was moved to give him the breakthrough.

3) He Honoured those in Authority

In I Samuel 30:27, we read that David sent gifts to the leaders of the land. Only the greater person gives gifts to the lesser. Usually the leaders give gifts to the followers. But David wanted to honour the leaders of the land and very soon, he became a greater leader than all other leaders in that land. None of these leaders supported David when Saul was hunting him. No one helped him in his difficult times, but David honoured those in authority. Be it the Saul who hated him or the leaders in the land who never cared for him, he was a man who honoured them. This, I am sure, turned God’s attention towards him.
You see , that David was never after the throne. He was after God’s heart. His deeds and doings clearly show that David wanted to catch a place in God’s heart more than the throne or the Kingdom of Israel. I believe he knew that if we seek God’s kingdom first and his righteousness, all things will be added to us.

Our breakthrough is on the way if we seek God’s heart more than we seek His promises. If only we obey, if only we do things out of the ordinary, we would catch God’s attention.

May we have our heart focussed on the heart of the God who is on the throne more than seeking earthly thrones.

When He sees that we are after his heart, there is nothing our Heavenly father will withhold from us. Take heart! Your breakthrough is on the way!!
