THE TASTE OF SIN

Sin has such a bitter taste. It gives some kind of pleasure to the body but it gives a gut wrenching feeling in the soul. This bitter feeling comes because we know that the sin or external pleasure has terrible consequences if found out. Even though it gives a bad feeling, even though we know that what we are doing is wrong we continue to do it only because we give more importance to the outward effects rather than stopping to realise what it is doing deep within us.

The Bible teaches us that if we confess our sins and are truly sorry, God will forgive us because he has punished Jesus on our behalf and we can be set free from the judgment because God has provided us a way because Jesus has paid the price.

For some this solution to be set free from sin is too easy to believe. So they keep sinning till they hit the hard reality of the consequences of the sin. Because sin is never without consequences.

For others this solution is too hard to believe because they think how can I not take the consequences of the sin. So they are prideful enough to say whatever be the consequence I don’t care because as of now I just see the pleasure. They have this mentality of ‘take life as it comes. Don’t have to worry too much about tomorrow.’

Also there are others who think as long as the sin they commit is not affecting others or they are doing that sin for the overall good then it is ok and they justify themselves and quite the voice of the conscience, which cries out that, “it is wrong.!” So they don’t see the need to get right with God.

But God calls us to be reconciled with Him in Christ. II Corinthians 5:19,21
God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Also the Bible tells us in
Hebrews 4:15, 16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 5:2 He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.
Hebrews 7:25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

These verses clearly tell us how Jesus can help us overcome completely the sin problem.

For some people it might be easier to think of a physical sacrifice that they offer to get rid of the guilt of sin. Like inflicting wounds on themselves, lashing, piercing or giving a blood sacrifice.
But Hebrews 9:14 says How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

So only the blood of Jesus will suffice.
Some people like I already mentioned are too proud to even mind about the consequences of sin. There are others who think there is no judgment, no life after death. No righteous God who sees all that is happening

But the word of God that is infallible and indestructible that has stood the test of time says in II Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Say all this is not true. It will be ok if there is no life after death, if there is nothing at the other side of life. Well if that is the case then there is nothing to loose!

But what if there is life after death, what if there is a judgment and your goodness was not good enough. Then it will be too late. There will be no point regretting and there will be no provision to make amends.

If the judgment that is going to come is true as the Bible says then the way God has provided to justify our sin must also be true. So it will be good to follow what the word of God says.

So it is better to get to know the judge and do what he has commanded us to do. After all, all He is asking us to believe that he has paid the price by shedding all His blood. This does not give us the freedom to trample upon this unmerited favour but be in fearful reverence unto Him whose death has given us strength to live a life free of sin.

Just like Jesus judged the adulterous woman. He judges us too. When everyone was ready to cast the stone and punish the woman they caught in the act. He did not cast a stone. And today He will not cast a stone on us too. Instead He just asks us to take this chance again and go living and not sin anymore.

Yes, we all fail. We are not perfect at all times. We make mistakes. We commit grievous sins. But when we do which category of person are we when we feel the bitter taste of sin.
Nowadays there is a category of people who conveniently say that we don’t have to ask for forgiveness always. Once we are forgiven we are forever forgiven. But don’t we take a medicine when we fall sick. We must ask for God’s forgiveness each time we fail him otherwise our relationship with the maker will be broken.

Is trusting that the blood of Jesus can wash your sins too easy or too difficult. Or do you not care. Or do you what the chance that God is giving to go and sin no more. To be reconciled with your maker. The one who formed you in your mother’s womb. The one who knows you by name. The one who made they way and is waiting with arms open wide.

Give your conscience a chance to be clean. Give your soul that peace that it deserves. Give your spirit some freedom from the sting of sin.

No matter how deep you are in the slush of sin. Come to Christ who can set you free from the grip of sin.

II Corinthians 5:17 – 19
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them.

Say this Prayer with all your heart.
Dear Heavenly Father! I know that I am a sinner unworthy to talk to someone as Holy as you. But today I want help to be free from sin. Help me realize the seriousness of sin. Help me to truly be sorry for my sins. I commit and decide to come out of it completely and not do it again. I plead you to wash me with the blood of Jesus that was shed to set my soul and body free not only from the consequences of sin externally but from the pain and bitterness of sin deep within my soul. I want to be able to be at peace with you and talk to you always. I truly want to be happy always and not be afraid. Please help me Father. In Jesus most precious name I pray Amen.

I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Stay Blessed
